The Study on the Anti-Inflammatory Effect of the Ostrich Extract combined with Korean Herb Medicine on Serum Parameters in Rat

We developes an ostrich(bone and meat) extract combined with Korean herb medicine(OEKHM) and analyzed the chemical nutritent composition and investigated the anti-inflammatory effect of OEKHM in the carragenan-induced rat footpad edema. The crude contents of fat, protein and ash in the OEKHM were 0.24 ±0.01, 11.28±1.72, and 0.60±0.06%, respectively. After treatment with oral doses of 3 mL/180 g BW, the carrageenan-inducees edema was slightly decresed in OEKHM group. Moreover, OEKHM administration significantly suppressed both the inflammatory parameters, such as, serum uric acid and the rheumatoid factor(RF) and the level of serum TG and AST in carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats. On the contrary, OEKHM treatment increased the level of serum HDL-cholesterol. Based on the beneficial effect against either inflammation or serum cholesterol, we suggest OEKHM can be used as functional food for anti-inflammatory activity and hypolipidemic activity
