Analysis of the results of the distal phalanx fracture reduction by K-wire fixation

Purpose: Most distal phalanx fractures are treated conservatively, but percutaneous Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation is a common surgical option due to its simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and use under local anesthesia. This study quantitatively evaluated the effectiveness of K-wire fixation on bone healing in DP fractures using radiographic analysis. Methods: A retrospective review was performed on patients treated between January 2014 and November 2022, excluding those with joint involvement. Data included demographics, fracture characteristics, timing of K-wire removal, and radiographic measurements of fracture gap and angulation before and after surgery.
