Investigation of CAPSS NOx Emission Factors for Natural Gas Facility

Using the measured data obtained from domestic natural gas (NG) facilities, this study investigates the validity of CAPSS NOx emission factor estimated a few decades ago and the calculation procedures utilized. Consequently, two major errors were identified in the calculation procedure of NOx emission factors: i)the weight of NOx per dry exhaust gas volume and ii)the amount of dry exhaust gas per fuel volume. Owing to these errors, the NOx emission factor of the present CAPSS is inflated by 1.3-2.3 times compared with the values of AP-42, and by 5 times compared with the actual values estimated by considering the current NOx emission regulation trend in Korea. Therefore, the currently reported CAPSS NOx emission factors need to be adjusted using newly measured NOx data and the new calculation method presented in this study.
