This study presents the mechanism of nonlinear stiffness and amplification of the sound signal associated with the hair bundle structure. The 3D structure-based bio-inspired hair cell bundle structure which has the nonlinear spring property of negative stiffness is used in this study. Then, the hair cell-based structure is used as nonlinear spring element of 1-DOF vibrating system. Harmonic balance method (HBM), a typical analytical tool used to estimate the nonlinear frequency response functions (FRFs), is applied to analyze the 1-DOF nonlinear mass-spring-damper system. The function of the nonlinearity of human's hair cells is investigated from the HBM analysis results. © copyright Environment and Climate Change Canada.
