Aerodynamic Noise Generated by an Upright Wall-mounted Half Cylinder and a Yawed Cylinder in a Free Stream

In this study, two cases of flows around an upright wall-mounted half cylinder and a yawed cylinder in a free stream are numerically investigated using Large-Eddy Simulation. In the first case, the formation and the downstream transport of horseshoe vortex are numerically simulated and compared with experimental data. The interactions between horseshoe vortex formed by re-orientation of incoming vorticity and the Strouhal vortices in the near wake of the half cylinder are also examined in this computation. The present results of the half cylinder and the yawed cylinder were produced at Reynolds numbers of 8.0×103 and 1.3×104 based on the cylinder diameter, respectively. The governing equations are formulated in terms of a structured, curvilinear grid system to accommodate the truncated deductive model proposed for the subgrid-scale turbulent motions. The sound generated from turbulent flows around the half cylinder and the yawed cylinder was also computed using Lighthill's acoustic analogy.
