초록

Zeolites have been reported as promising catalysts since 1960. Hierarchical zeolites can generally be achieved by incorporating intracrystalline mesopores inside the microporous zeolite structure or introducing intercrystalline mesopores into spaces that are intergrown by nanosized zeolite crystals. Different synthesis methods of hierarchical zeolite and their applications have been studied extensively in the past decades. The methods involved in generating hierarchical structure in zeolites can be classified as top-down and bottom-up techniques. This chapter covers the advantages and limitations of these different strategies. Bottom-up approaches comprise hydrothermal modifications from hard-templating and soft-templating methods, while top-down strategies are consist of post-synthesis treatments involving dealumination and desilication. The intrinsic microporosity in zeolite structure along with the additional meso/macroporosity makes hierarchical zeolites multifunctional materials. Zeolites are mainly used as catalysts, adsorbents, and ion exchangers in industry. New synthesis strategies of hierarchical zeolite that are sustainable, environmental friendly, and cost-effective are important areas of study in modern catalysis. © 2021 WILEY-VCH GmbH, Boschstr. 12, 69469 Weinheim, Germany.
