Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common cause of end stage renal failure and early recognition of those who will develop DN is of great importance. Rapid renal function decline has been recognized as an important predictor for diabetic nephropathy (DN). We aim to investigate the role of inflammatory cytokines and adipokines in the development of rapid renal function decline in type 2 diabetes and normal renal function. High plasma A-FABP was an independent risk factor for rapid renal function decline in type 2 diabetes and normal renal function.
