Numerical and experimental studies are carried out to analyze the resistance characteristics of a hydrofoil catamaran which is advancing on calm water with uniform speed. The hydrofoil catamaran has been designed with modification of a Wigley hull to have asymmetric transverse sections and a transom stern. Experiments and numerical simulations are carried out for the range of Froude nember 0.2 to 1.0 with angles of attack of the hydrofoil varying between 0.0 to 3.0. The model tests are carried out in the ship model basin of the Inha University. Numerical computations using a finite difference method are also performed to simulate flow field around the hull and the results are compared with those of the model tests to show qualitatively good agreementss with the measurements. The results show that the shape and the angles of attack of the foils have a considerable influence on the running posture and resistance characteristics of the ship.
