Even though light emitting diodes (LEDs) are highly efficient and eco-friendly light sources, the illuminating performance required for lighting cannot be satisfied with themselves due to their directionally radiating behaviors. Accordingly the secondary optics for converting an output beam radiated from a LED into a desired illumination pattern is needed. Total internal reflection (TIR) type lenses are often used as the secondary optics for LED luminaires, since they provide compactness and high efficiency.[1] TIR type lens is very useful for generating a rectangular illumination pattern, which is very important in the application such as a camera LED flash and a pico-projector.
