Laser styrofoam processing for eliminative pattern casting

The Styrofoam has been used for press die pattern of EPC. The object of this research is to develop the manufacturing pattern system using low power CO2 laser. The current pattern EPC has been made by handwork that requires the special and monotonous skill in small job shop. It causes to raise the production cost and to increase the weight of die. Laser Styrofoam processing system was designed to scan the Styrofoam to eliminate the unnecessary part of pattern. The step motor controller is used to do a linear interpolation and a circular arc interpolation through working path.It can reduce the processing time greatly, compared with the handwork processing
