For the development of a reasonable dielectric layer for a PDP(Plasma Display Panel), high transmittance and high break down voltage are mainly required. These properties are usually influenced by occurring pores in fired thick films. In this study, a glass paste having boric-zinc oxide compositions was used to make transparent thick films by a screen-printing method. Behavior of pores was quantitatively evaluated under different frit size in the fired thick film as well with the viscous flow of frit using a hot stage microscopy. The distribution rate of pores was significantly reduced from 15/㎟ to 0.3/㎟with decreasing frit size from d50=4㎛ to d50=2㎛. The results suggest that the porosity of transparent thick layers could be controlled by frit size in fired thick films.
