緣(Yen) -A way of Converging Unexpected Urban Void on the Future City Fabric

This study attempts to establish the conceptual motif of urban space reconstruction derived from implied meaning of convergency in Chinese character “Yeon(緣)”, and to collects different viewpoints on this notion from multinational interpretation. Why? Because the notion of community has been extinct in the modern city due to decentralization and urban sprawl, and because what is worse is that the framework of today's urban space organization has been being aggravated by so called global discourse on the urban infrastructure system such as production, consumption, and transportation network of the city. Nowadays, the city itself as urban spaces has resulted in fragmentized entity where both physical and spiritual communication in between the urban space is suppressed to withholding the progression of social and cultural ecology. In this study, the conceptual approach of “urban convergency” is investigated to understand the notion of '緣', the continuity of urban spaces and cityscape, to criticize the cities of zero that is being uniformed in the hegemony of global discourse, and to seek for the strategy creating new urban community in such fragmented world.
