Prediction of Projectile Trajectories Launched from Helicopter

A program that can predict trajectories of projectiles launched from helicopters is developed. A compressible Euler solver in conjunction with an actuator disk model is used to compute the interference flow field due to the rotor and fuselage of the helicopters. Prediction of trajectories is done with a modified point mass solver as well as a 6 DOF solver. ROBIN (ROtor Body INteraction) model is chosen to validate the interference flow field surrounding the helicopter. The trajectory solver is validated using trajectories of the Sierra International bullet and the 105mm projectile. The trajectories of projectiles launched from a helicopter and the effects of flight condition are predicted.
