A study of changing boundary caused by changing university in urban space

Society's Growing complex, cultural space in the city has been being changed in scale and character. The university campus located in the city, in particular, has increased its socio-cultural and economic effects on the neighboring areas beyond its educational purpose and its urban role has become critical. As long as either material or immaterial boundaries between urban space and university campuses exist, however, communities between the city and the campuses are to be decreased and the campus' neighboring areas become rather standardized and simply commercialized. In this context, the purpose of the study is to seek for the way to develop city campus and surrounding area through an analysis of the differences between 'place marking' and 'place marketing' found in the case of ECC(Ehwa Campus Center) designed by Dominique Perrault. The main argument is focused on the way how to make campus interrelated with surrounding areas through any commercial and cultural facilities.
