Increasing Demand for Recycling of magnesium alloys has focused attention on the importance of hydrogen degassing during melt refining. Melt flow in a typical cylindrical vessel induced by a disk flat-blade impeller has been studied by water model experiments and as well as by computer simulations. The kinetics on degassing from melt has been simulated by water model experiments and are found to be well matched. Flow patterns obtained by mechanical agitation together with gas bubbling in vessel with or without baffles have a significant effect on the kinetics of hydrogen degassing. For comparisons, hot model experiments in laboratory scale are also made and fitted into the kinetics of hydrogen degassing.
