A Scheme of Route Discover for Energy Balancing in Cluster-Based Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless Sensor Networks have become a very attractive research topic in recent years. How to extend the lifetime of the network have received attention. In order to achieve this goal, energy efficiency and energy balancing approaches are crucial. In this paper, we use a model of the cluster-based which consists of some high-energy nodes called “Gateways” and a large number of ordinary sensor nodes. According to network size, gateway nodes are deployed in the network. Furthermore, clusters are formed such that its gateway is located within the communication range of all of its cluster sensors by the command node. Second, the TDMA-Based MAC (Medium access control) protocol is used between the base-station and the gateway nodes. The base-station communicates with gateway nodes and assigns the time slot for them to avoid collision. Third, we discuss how to discover and determine the transmission route for node between the ordinary nodes and cluster head in the cluster. Our approach is that the cluster head should compare the node’s reserve energy to choose the optimization transmission route when the ordinary sensor nodes have a data to transmit, which can keep the balance on the dissipation of per sensor’s energy. Finally, our simulation results demonstrate that the node’s lifetime that can be used in the cluster almost two times longer than other approach that have been proposed.
