Ranaspumin-based Biofoam for Dermal Treatment Material

초록

The tungara frog (Engystomops pustulosus) produces a foam nest to protect its eggs. Tungara frog foam is composed of proteins, lectins, and polysaccharides. Ranaspumin-2 (RSN-2) protein is one of the elements that establish frog foam. RSN-2 has an amphiphilic structure at a specific pH of 7.4, a physiological condition. The amphiphilic structure of RSN-2 can function as a surfactant, reducing surface tension. In this study, the RSN-2-based biofoam was demonstrated as a drug delivery carrier. In the dermatological field, there is an urgent need for a non-irritating drug administration carrier for burn sites, chronic acne skin, and scalp diseases. As a drug delivery carrier, foam can be easily formed from solution drugs and lightly deliver molecules without irritating. Furthermore, the foam can provide uniform coverage over irregular surfaces, such as burn wounds, indicating its suitability as a delivery vehicle for therapeutic agents
