Isolation and characterization of the yeast metabolites that respond to environmental change
초록
Metabolomics is a powerful tool in investigating gene functions and networks in cell. Using small-molecule metabolite profiles, potential biomarker can be discovered. In this study, metabolomics were used to explore how metabolites of Saccharomyces cerevisiae change in response to the nutrients availability. Restriction of nutrient uptake increases lifespan and also changes cellular gene expression and protein function. However, the mechanisms in the relationship between nutrients present in the environment and gene regulation are still to be elucidated. We compared metabolic profiling of yeast cells grown in normal and nutrient restricted medium. The levels of several metabolites whowed variation between normal and nutrient restricted medium. Later, genes involved in a metabolite pathway were selected to investigate the possible mechanisms of the metabolite using yeast genetics.
