Intelligent Distance Learing System on the WWW

This paper suggests using a distance learing system which has the ability to extract intelligent instruction on the world wide web. The proposed system is designed for supproting individual instruction on the web. The system is composed of an expert module, student module and an instructional strategy module. To implement this system on the world wide web, we use a CGI application for user interaction. To diagnose student's responses and generate evaluations, we use several linguistic variables. Due to the dynamic behavior of this system, we define data structures for accumulating, analyzing and evaluating responses of students. The advantages of using this system over others are numerous. One is that it can generate problems dynamically using the diagnosed results . Another advantage is the ability to provide a dynamic instruction strategy. In addition to showing instructional unit network and student's learning paths, we can overcome disorientation problem that have frequently occurred on the web. With our system, it is possible for students to learn anytime and anyware because of it's availability on the world wide web.
