This paper presents control response of a suspension system featuring ER dampers. After distilling the field-dependent Bingham characteristics, a cylindrical ER damper is designed and manufactured. A quarter car suspension model is then constructed for the evaluation of vibration control. The dynamic motion generated by the piston movement produces a voltage required for operating ER damper. The produced voltage is amplified through inhousingly-made amplifier and applied to the ER damper. A sky-hook controller is designed and implemented experimentally. Vibration control responses are investigated with respect to the piston velocity as well as the intensity of the electric field.
