Vibration and Noise Control of a Smart Plate Featuring ER Fluid

This paper presents vibration and noise control of a smart plate incorporated with an ER fluid. After showing the controllability of the vibration magnitude and mode shape of the plate an experimental setup is established for achieving noise control in a closed cabin. It has been demonstrated that effective reduction of the sound level in the closed cabin featuring one sided-ER plate is accomplished by employing a fuzzy control algorithm.
