This research, as a successful precedent dealing with the urban-social problems of low-carbon green growth, super-ageing, decrease of population, and decline of the inner city, attempts to study Japan’s Toyama city's transit-oriented area development project. The main feature of this project is to reorganize the urban structure centered on public transportation and to substantially increase the population living in the line along the transportation network formed by the railway-bus dual system. Especially, the introduction of LRT and the reconfiguration of the urban spatial structure by the public transport network reorganization were found to be effective for actual population growth of local cities and suggested implications for urban regeneration strategies for local cities. © 2018 The Korean Society for Railway.
