Global Trends in Integrating ESG Principles within the Logistics Sector: A Keywords Trend Analysis Based on News Media Crawling

This paper explores the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in the logistics sector, highlighting the role of logistics within the broader supply chain and its impact on various domains, including warehousing, transportation, point-of-sale, and consumer logistics. By identifying key ESG categories relevant to logistics?such as carbon emissions, pollution, human capital, product liability, corporate governance, and business ethics?a comprehensive set of 30 keywords is utilized for search engine optimization and news crawling to analyze global ESG logistics trends. The study reviews existing literature on Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) and the impact of ESG principles on market reactions and industry-specific strategies. A methodology leveraging Python-based Google News search library is employed to collect news articles globally, resulting in the categorization of 3,059 articles into environmental, social, and governance topics. The analysis reveals that environmental issues dominate media coverage (43.7%), followed by social (33.8%) and governance (22.5%). The yearly trend analysis from 2000 to 2023 shows a significant increase in ESG logistics news, particularly since 2020. Additionally, our analysis shows that the emphasis on ESG components varies significantly across regions. The study underscores the importance of integrating ESG principles in logistics to enhance sustainability and efficiency, driven by technological advancements, regulatory pressures, and stakeholder expectations. This research provides a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics within ESG logistics, highlighting the critical role of sustainability in supply chain management.
