A retention behaviour of five deoxyribonucleosides(dCyd, dUrd, dGuo, dThd, and dAdo) was studied under isocratic conditions of Reversed-Phase HPLC. The column was uBondapak C18(10um, Waters). The volume fraction of organic modifier was changed from 0.00 to 0.30, and to 0.12 for methanol and acetonitrile, respectively. Comparison of the approaches describing retention of the deoxyribonucleosides as a function of the mobile phase composition has been performed. Linear and nonlinear regression was carried out for the following equations:logk'=logk'w-S*F (1), logk'= H + Klog(1/F) (2), k' = A + B(1/F) (3), k' = CF2 + DF + E (4) where k' is capacity factor, F is volume fraction of organic modifier, and logk'w, S, H, K, A, B, C, D and E were experimental coefficients. The best fits were obtained for Eq.(3), and the poorest correlations were obtained for Eq. (2). Unlike the slope S of Eq.(1), the slope B of Eq.(3) can characterize the properties of solute and organic modifier simultaneously.
