Park_Scape - A study on the rebirth of the waste landscape in Ju-An industrial complex

Abstract Entering the post-industrial age, the heavy industrial areas have been markedly ruined. Based on this fact, the study intends to explore the practical and realistic possibility of environmental rebirth in such abandoned city edge. The main argument is focused upon how to make such surplus urban space as city edge left over by severe industrialization sustainable with respect to the historical continuity, instead of out-dated modernistic approach. The study attempts to grasp Collin Rowe's concept of 'Collage City' as theoretical frame, to investigate the areas where the tradition and the modernness, the mechanized and the nature, are collided with each other, and to analyze the urban structure of such a dualistic city as Incheon to adopt as a device to overcome the limit of the modern city. The aim of this study is to represent Incheon's spatial property on the basis of the analysis of Ju-An industrial complex, and to revitalize the softened surplus space generated by the collision between city edge urban landscape and city body.
