Self pH-controlled Al-incorporation for mesoporous aluminosilicate as Lewis acid catalyst

A self pH controlled synthesis of mesoporous aluminosilicate with F127 triblock copolymer as a template and sodium metasilicate as a silica source. The self pH-controlled synthesis of mesoporous alumino silicate using F127 triblock copolymer enabled the formation of aluminum incorporated mesoporous silica having wormhole-like pore system. The high pH value enabled the incorporation of aluminum into the silica framework with cubic mesostructure. Despite of the addition of aluminum during the synthesis of SBA-16, cubic mesoporosity of the catalysts were maintained and aluminum sites dominantly exhibited Lewis acidity which could be applied to Friedel-Crafts alkylation. Al-SBA-16 was applied in alkylation of toluene with benzyl alcohol and benzyl chloride as alkylating agents.
