A newly designed, double-layered and silicon-covered metallic stent for malignant biliary obstruction: a multicenter feasibility study

Background: Metal stent could be occluded by tumor ingrowth after stent placement in patients with malignant biliary obtruction. The patency of covered metal stent was not different with that of uncovered metal stent. Double-layered and silicon-covered metal stent was recently developed to overcome limited patency of the metal stent in palliative management of unresectable malignant biliary obstruction. We evaluate the safety and efficacy of the placement of a double-layred and silicon-covered biliary metal stent for the management of malignant biliary stricture.
