Media Concentration and Ownership in Korea
초록
Korean media industry has changed from monopolistic or duopolistic structure to competitive one. In the last 20 years, media industry in Korea developed at a rapid speed. Before 1987, every media sector maintained monopolistic or duopolistic structure. . In the multi media and multi channel environment, media concentration in Korea shows dramatic change. In particular, 2010 amended Broadcasting Act deregulated broadcasting ownership. In the process of amendment, political debate over the deregulation of media ownership focused on the issue whether deregulatory policy would strengthen monopolistic power in public opinion or it would improve diversity of public opinion. This question has been unsolved yet. Have Korean media concentrated or not? In this vein, this study explores media ownership in Korea.
