P2P Transfer for Multimedia Data with Client Initiated with Prefetching

In this paper, we propose and evaluate the P2P data transfer scheme for partial multimedia stream. Similar to client-initiated-with-prefetch (CIWP), the proposed scheme allows two clients that request the same video at different time to share a channel without having to delay the earlier request. It enables sharing of multimedia stream by permitting the client that arrives later in time to join an ongoing multicast session initiated by an earlier request. However, it’s different from the basic CIWP scheme in transferring a partial stream. Since the client of a new requesting cannot receive a portion of multimedia stream that has been already transmitted on multicast session, the client receives it from proceeding client, not from the server, for saving resources at the server side.
