Enhanced Corrosion Resistance of Carbon Steel Alloy through High-Velocity Oxygen Fuel Spray Coating with Boride Modification
초록
Steel is a pivotal structural material due to its exceptional mechanical properties and widespread availability. However, steel's vulnerability to corrosion, wherein it reacts with atmospheric oxygen to produce mechanically frail iron oxide, poses a significant challenge to its structural longevity. As such, coatings or alloying strategies are indispensable for enhancing steel's corrosion resistance and ensuring its suitability for intended applications. While stainless steel, engineered for elevated corrosion resistance, garners significant utility, its diminished thermal conductivity compared to conventional carbon steel limits its application scope, particularly in contexts necessitating robust corrosion resistance and effective heat transfer. To address this quandary, this investigation employed the High-Velocity Oxygen Fuel Spray Coating (HVOF) technique to apply Fe-Cr-B series powders to S45C carbon steel. This pioneering approach yielded noteworthy results, demonstrating that the corrosion resistance of the coated S45C material approximated that of stainless steel, all while retaining heat transfer capabilities akin to the base S45C material. These findings underscore the high application potential of this engineered surface alloy, boasting superlative corrosion resistance and heat transfer attributes, rendering it an attractive prospect for a wide array of industrial applications.
