Lead zirconate titanates films of greater thickness(e.g.:1-5micrometer) are useful for applications such as pyroelectric infrared detectors and piezoelectric actuators. In this study, crack-free PZT layers with thickness of up to 0.9micrometer have been prepared using a single spin coating from a diol-based sel-gel route. It is also well known that the single phase perovskite which is ideal for PZT ceramics, forms through an intermediate pyrochlore phase9Cubic Pb-deficient). In order to control the pyrochlore-perovskite phase transformation kinetics, seeding effects on the transformation from amorphous aerogel to the perovskite phase were investigated in this work. The PZT seeds with particle size in the order of 200 micrometers were introduced into the PZT precursors and the unseeded and seeded PZT films were produced by applying a single coating on to platinized silicon substrates. To further understand the crystallization behavior of the seeded PZT films, XRD studies were investigated.
