Electrical and Physical Properties of ZnO Blocks

This paper deals with the electrical and physical properties of ZnO blocks due to lightning surge currents. The resistive leakage current detection device with compensation circuit and the lightning surge current simulator were designed and made. We have investigated the SEM and voltage-current characteristics of ZnO blocks. The proposed current measurement device can clearly isolate the capacitive and resistive components from the total leakage currents. The resistive current, capacitive current and dielectric loss factor of ZnO blocks are drastically increased with increasing temperature. Also the micro-structures of ZnO blocks were significantly changed by passage lightning surge currents.
