A study on release determination scheme at flood time

A methodology for determining the optimal releases during reservoir operations is suggested to present a rational basis of the releases during the flood season. To determine release schemes, a forecasted flood hydrograph is divided into two parts, a part controlled by non-damaging discharge and another part using flood control storage of the reservoir. In case of using flood control storage, a new reservoir operation method, called TRF(Transformed Reservoir Flood) ROM, is suggested for the operation. This paper presents an application of the methodology to the o[eration of a single multipurpose reservoir at the Taechong Dam during the last flood seasons and the results are reviewed.
