초록

Dementia is increasing worldwide due to a rapidly ageing population. This review deals with the nutritional problems of dementia and management strategies using dietary taurine supplementation. Most dementia patients have nutritional and dietary problems, and nutritional deficiency is common. They show altered eating behaviors as the disease progresses, and they have nutritional problems such as weight loss, dehydration, and anemia. A nutritious diet is an important factor in the prevention of cognitive decline and functional damage. It is necessary to eat balanced foods with high-nutritional density, to drink enough water, and to eat a variety of nuts, vegetables, and fruits that are rich in antioxidant vitamins, and fish and shellfish that are rich in unsaturated fatty acids and taurine. Adequate nutrition and eating habits improve physical status in dementia patients, and sufficient nutritional management can improve their quality of life. Therefore, it is suggested to follow dietary guidelines for dementia. © 2020 Elsevier Inc.
