초록

Metal oxides with fibrous morphologies are among the most promising materials for the sensitive detection of volatile organic compounds and toxic gases and various other applications. In this chapter we discuss their gas-sensing applications. Electrospinning (ES) is the most effective technique for synthesizing metal oxide nanofibers (NFs), and electrospun metal oxide NFs are widely used for sensing applications. Electrospun oxide NFs with high specific surface areas, low agglomeration, and excellent porous morphologies are essential to achieving high sensing performance through the effective and faster diffusion of target gas molecules. In this chapter we first introduce an ES technique for the synthesis of various NFs using metal oxides. In the second part, promising sensing applications of various designed NFs for the detection of various toxic gases and vapors are discussed. Pristine metal oxide NFs, noble metal-doped or loaded metal oxide NFs, and composite metal oxide NFs are discussed. This work may provide valuable information for researchers in the field of electrospun metal oxide gas sensors. © 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
