Performance Evaluation of an Adaptive External Loading Conveyor System in the Loading Dock of Logistics Facility

초록

This paper proposes an adaptive external loading conveyor system as an automation technology to improve the efficiency of loading operations in logistics facilities and reduce dependence on manual labor. The proposed system utilizes a pre-stacking based batch loading mechanism that allows cargo to be pre-loaded on the external loading conveyor before the vehicle arrives. Field experiments were conducted at an actual logistics facility, measuring vehicle waiting time and dock throughput. The result showed that the proposed system reduced the average vehicle waiting time by approximately 85% and improved the dock throughput by approximate 43% compared with the conventional manual method. This study empirically demonstrated that structural innovation in the loading process can significantly enhance the overall efficiency of logistics facility operations, and the proposed technology is expected to serve as a key foundation for fully automated logistics facilities based on drive-thru concept.
