Metallophosphates having open framework structures have been attracted to be utilizing as novel molecular sieves having nanoporous structures. Among them nanoporous nickel phosphate molecular sieves, VSB-5 and VSB-1, has been demonstrated to be applied as not only metallic catalysis like redox catalysis but also hydrogen storage materials. These VSB-5 and VSB-1 can be synthesized in alkaline and acidic conditions, respectively, with various amines as templates. For the synthesis of nickel phosphates nanoporous materials, the pH control is more effective than the type of template amines. Dense nickel phosphates may be obtained if the pH is too high or low. Rod-type single crystal of VSB-5 with the size of about 200μm could be obtained through the prolonged crystallization time at the highly diluted condition with water and nano-sized crystals could be synthesized when the templates, 1,6-hexamethylenediamine or 1,4-diaminobutane, were used.
