The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in the dietary behaviors and health-related lifestyles of nation-wide college students attending a nutrition education web class. The subjects were 1717(male: 778, female: 939) nation-wide college students and cross-sectional survey was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire by mail or internet from April to May in 2002. The data were analyzed by SPSS PC program. The mean ages of the male and female subjects were 22.5±2.6 and 21.0±2.1 years old, the mean heights were 174.9±5.2 and 162.4±8.1cm, the mean weights were 68.5±9.5 and 52.8±6.7 kg, and the mean of BMI were 22.4±2.8 and 20.1±2.2 kg/m2, respectively. In the male and female subjects, there was a significant improvement in regularity of breakfast, meal size, consideration of balanced meal, frequency of vegetables(yellow and green leaf), fruits, protein foods(meat, fish, egg, bean), milk, and seaweeds at the end of the nutrition education web class. Also there were significant changes in the frequency of eating out, standard for selection of menu in eating out, consideration of balanced nutrition, use of the right season food, concern of dietary life, self-recognition on importance of dietary life. Female subjects reported their own health status significantly worse and showed lower change in smoking habit compared to the male subjects. In the male subjects, there was a significant improvement in smoking, alcohol drinking, duration of exercise at the end of the nutrition education web class. These results suggest that a nutrition education web class help Korean college students change their the dietary behaviors and health-related lifestyles in better way.
