Synthesis of beta-SiC Whiskers from Domestic Kaolin

초록

Beta-Silicon Carbide whiskers with aspect of about 1,000 were synthesized by the reduction/carbonization of Korean pink kaolin at high temperature between 1400 and 1500 degree. It was considered that silicon carbide whiskers would be grown up by the VLS mechanism because whiskers with droplets were observed only in the goethite(FeOOH)-added melts. The details will be discussed further with respect to the effects of various experimental conditions
