Design Types and Characteristics of Ground and Underground Lobby Spaces in Multi Family Housing
초록
There has been a growing attention on ground and underground lobby spaces in urban multi-family housing due to various functional aspects; A lobby is an intermediating space between an outdoor public and an indoor semi-public territory, acting as a defensible communal space for residents’ security. It creates social contacts among residents, while providing daily convenient service facilities. As such, this study examines design types and functional characteristics of ground and underground lobby spaces in selected urban multi-family housing complexes in Songdo New City. Based on the analysis, new design approaches are proposed to improve spatial layouts and functional aspects of lobbies. The goal is to reinforce complementary interrelationship between ground and underground lobby spaces.
