A Series Active Power Filter to Compensate Reactive Power and Sag in Three-Phase Four-Wire

This paper presents the analysis of series active power filter for reactive power compensation, load balancing, harmonic elimination, the cancellation of neutral line current in the three-phase four-wire power systems and sag compensation. As the control method, the basic concept of generalized p-q theory is used and the synchronous reference frame is also used for sag compensation. The advantages of this control method are that the proposed method is fit wit multifunction according to the aim of controls and it is possible to calculate the references without multiplying the gain of active power filter. Therefore, the calculation of the compensation voltage reference is simpler than other control methods;the performance of the series active power filter is improved because the delay in compensation voltage reference calculation is shortened.
