The effect of the volume change in the melting process of P.C.M

In this study, considering the effect of the total volume reduction due to density change, inward melting process of the fixed and the unfixed phase change material (ice) in a horizontal ice storage tube were examined experimentally. In an horizontal ice storage tube, the natural convection caused an increase in melting rate, while the reduction of the heating surface area caused a decrease in melting rate. From the observation, each measured molten mass fraction (Ml/Mtot) were correlated using proper dimensionless numbers.
