Improved Self-Imaging Characteristics by the Analysis of Phase Error for Multi-mode Interference Device

초록

Photonics Conference 2001, 속초, 한화 콘도, (2001. 10. 31~11. 2) -- Simple principle of Self-imaging in Multi-Mode Interference(MMI) devices is based on the approximation of propagation constants. The phase errors of each mode originated from this approximation deteriorate the quality of imaging. We proposed a design of reconciliation of the index difference between core and cladding to reduce the phase errors of each mode. Comparison of self-imaging characteristics between optimized design and other design cases with lower and higher index steps than optimized provides improvement of the imaging quality of MMI devices.
