Ni-impregnated catalysts, Ni/gamma-Al2O3 and Ni/CeO2 -ZrO2 (CZO), containing 20 wt.% Ni were used as catalysts for the catalytic reforming, i.e., pyrolysis/gasification, of refuse derived fuels (RDF). In the non-catalytic pyrolysis/gasification of RDF, the amount of syngas was increased with a concomitant increase in H-2/CO and CO/CO2 ratios in the syn-gas by applying a higher temperature and equivalence ratio (E/R). In contrast, the catalytic pyrolysis/gasification of RDF over both Ni/gamma-Al(2)O(3 )and Ni/CZO produced larger amounts of syn-gas than the non-catalytic pyrolysis/gasification of RDF, which was increased further by applying a higher temperature and E/R. By applying a higher temperature and E/R, the H-2/CO ratio in the gas product obtained from the catalytic pyrolysis/gasification of RDF was decreased and the CO/CO2 ratio was increased.
