Numerical Study on the Open Water Performance of a Propeller with Sinusoidal Pitch Motion
초록
When a ship operates in waves, the ship moves with 6 degree-of-freedom and a propeller operating at the stern of the ship cannot avoid moving according to the ship motion. Therefore, the analysis of propulsion performance considering the ship motion in waves is an important factor from the point of view of the efficient ship operation. Especially, the pitch motion of the ship has a dominant effect on the variation of the propeller performance resulting in the sinusoidal pitch motion of the propeller. In this study, the model propeller, KP458 of 10 cm diameter, which was designed for KLVCC2 was used for the numerical analysis. First, the propeller performances at several constant tilt angles were cal-culated using CFD. And then, numerical simulations were conducted with sinusoidal pitch motion in several conditions varying pitch angle and frequency. The variations of thrust and torque of the propeller in the sinusoidal pitch motion were compared with the thrust and torque in calm water. And the effect of the ship motion on the propulsion efficiency were also investigated.
