A Study of Building Facade In Symmetry

This article discusses the value of seven frieze groups of symmetry as compositional devices in the analysis and synthesis of building facade. First, the mathematical principle behind classifications of symmetry groups for frieze patterns is discussed to ground its rigorous foundation. Then architectural facades are analyzed with respect to symmetry. Finally, the frieze symmetry principle is applied to the construction of a hypothetical new building facade, developed through an abstract three-dimensional computer model.
