Outcomes of Severe Mitral Stenosis with the Revised Severity Criteria: Mitral Valve Replacement versus Percutaneous Mitral Valvuloplasty

For severe MS patients, no significant difference in CV death or HF admission according to the initial treatment strategy of PMV versus MVR. The PMV group experienced more frequent redo-interventions than MVR groupin the late (among MVA 1.0 ? 1.5 cm2) or early (among MVA ≤ 1.0 cm2) follow-up period. Therefore, PMV would be considered as the preferred first-line therapy in MVA 1.0 ? 1.5 cm2 patients who have no PMV contraindications. MVR would be considered the primary treatment for MVA ≤ 1.0 cm2 patients, without clear evidence of suitable morphology for PMV.
