Control Characteristics of ER Devices (Invited Paper)

This paper addresses general guidelines for controlling various ER devices. The sussessful development of Er devices heavily depends upon three principal ingredients; ER fluid, mechanism and controller. These ingredients are coupled and hence each component influences each other. Especially, the control system has close relationship with the response time of ER fluid itself and required current density. Furthermore, an appropriate high voltage amplifier which exhibits fast response time is absolutely required. The realization of the sophistigated control logic is also needed.
