Integrating Key Performance Indicators of Hospital Nursing Units

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to analyze and integrate key performance indicators (KPIs) of hospital nursing unitsusing literature review. MethodsLiterature ReviewWe established include-exclude criteria before starting literature search. After that, we reviewed 41 literatures from RISS, KISS, National assembly library and NDSL DB. Data were collected on October 17, 2013.Integrating Key Performance IndicatorsThe critical KPIs categories by BSC four perspectives developed by Choi and BSC research group in 2011 were used as an analytic framework of integrating key performance indicators. This framework has 13 sub categories. CVI Toget parsimony prototype of KPIs, we used CVI technique.Expert group consisted of five: One nursing management professor and four nursing management graduate students.When over 4 of experts selected the same critical KPIsub category, then we interpreted they agreed the classification of KPI. ResultsThe literatures that qualified established include-exclude criteria were 10 researches.Total number of KPIsof nursing unitswas 234.The KPIs of financial perspective were integrated 11. The KPIs of customer perspective were integrated 5. The KPIs of internal process perspective were integrated 9. The KPIs of learning and growth perspective were integrated 7. Consequently, 32from 234 KPIs were extracted and parsimony prototype of KPIs of hospital nursing unis were developed. ConclusionThrough this study, we aggregated total KPIs of hospital nursing units from recent researches and integrated a prototype of KPIs. These results will be used as a platform to develop more complete KPIs of hospital nursing units for managing nursing units, measuring nursing services outcomes, and evaluating nurse’s performances.
