초록
As a then-recently decolonized nation, the Philippines inherited from the US a number of ideological conflicts owing to the latter‘s leading role in the Cold War. Political tensions heightened during the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos, whose pro-US policies enabled him to plan and implement a dynastic dictatorship, cut short by a popular uprising in 1986. Paradoxically, the Marcos regime instituted a system of support for Philippine cinema that was sufficiently democratic and visionary, resulting in a spate of quality releases that lasted over a decade. The model, as embodied in the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines, has proved useful enough to provide the local industry with a mechanics for survival in the post-Marcos era.
